Itineraries In And Around Sarajevo

There really is a lot to see and do in Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina, especially considering thier size. This is especially true when you consider that (according to the statistics) most people take just a short two or three day trip to the capital.

This being the case, it's important to plan your time there in advance and with some care. In this section we provide some sample itineraries. The itineraries are for stays of 24, 48, and 72 hours and are of course just suggestions and you should adapt based on your preferences.

Just got 24 hours! That's a quick trip, but don't worry: you can fit a lot in and get a real taste of Sarajevo's essence.

One full day is enough time to check out the major sites, trial out Bosnian cuisine for lunch and dinner, after hitting a bakery for breakfast.

This is a tricky time-frame. Should you take a day trip or not? It's a good question. Probably not, but it's up to you.

While one day is enough to cover a lot of Sarajevo, you can miss out on some of the details. At the same time, a day trip to somewhere like Boračko Jezero or Lukomir can show you a completely different side to the country.

72 hours? At this point, you almost certainly deserve a day trip. The only question is 'where to?'

Or perhaps you fancy an overnight stay somewhere out of Sarajevo? With three days, you can take a full day in Sarajevo and still do this.
