About "In And Around"
In short, In and Around is a series of city guides. More specifically, In and Around is a series of honest city guides that try not to window dress, sugar coat, or beautify anything, founded on what is at least perceived to be an in-depth and objective knowledge of the locations covered.
As a general rule, In and Around tries to:
- Limit travel-babbel, travel ego tripping, and hyperbole: we’re not here to sell you travel in general or a particular destination. (Though, this doesn’t mean we won’t try to have great design and pretty prose.)
- Rely on genuine local knowledge and understanding so that you have access to information that is relevant and accurate.
- Provide objective information so you can take informed travel decisions about where to go and what to do. (Relatedly, we have a policy against sponsored posts.)
- Stick to the classics (plus a little bit more) and not get caught up in fads, trends, and professing zeitgeist. In this way you don’t waste limited time because we are trying to ‘outcool’ other guides.
- Use nice photos, but photos that you would also be able to take. We don’t use photoshop here. We might use the occasional filter. We show obtainable reality.
- Provide an overview so you can orient yourself with your new destination and then signpost to people and organizations who know a topic better than we do to make sure you have access to the best available information on the topics that interest you.
- Take information architecture seriously - we want to help you find the information that might be useful to you as easily as possible and we don’t structure our content in pursuit of page views and ad revenue.
- Design our pages responsively with a mobile first approach so you can access information with ease.
- Tailor the information architecture to suit the city it covers to make it conducive to your visit.
In And Around: Never pretentious. Occasionally poetic. Always informed. Guides that get to the heart.
