Climate in Sarajevo
Sarajevo has a relatively devilish climate. It can be extreme; it can also be a little unpredictable. The city falls firmly under the spell of continental meteorology: hot and humid summers (perhaps a little too hot?) and surprisingly cold winters, often with heaps of snow. In Herzegovina on the other hand, in Mostar for example, the climate is much more Mediterranean. The spring and autumn are just wonderful. Obvioulsy, you should, if you can, choose a time of year that suits your planned activities. You wouldn't try to ski in the summer. You can read more about the climate as a whole in Bosnia and Herzegovina here.
The weather in Sarajevo is relatively unpredictable. I would even say that it has the least trustworthy weather forecast I have ever exprienced (perhaps the topogrpahy of the valley Sarajevo is situated in makes it more challenging to make predictions?). A warm summer day can quickly be drowned in a downpour of lashing rain as dark clouds creep over the crest of the surrounding hilltops.
The mountains have their own climates which can be brutal for large swathes of the year, often with snow cover for over five months. Before you plan a hike you should check which months that hike is recommended during and make sure that you have appropriate clothing and supplies.
Finally, one cannot talk about the climate of Sarajevo withougt discussing the pollution: Sarajevo can be disgustingly polluted in the winter. At times it is even ranked as the most polluted city in the world. When it is very polluted it almost hurts to breath and the stench seems into your clothes and hair.
